If you're craving an authentic taste of Hong Kong right in the heart of San Gabriel, HK Cafe is your go-to destination. This bustling Chinese cha chaan teng-style restaurant captures the essence of Hong Kong's beloved café culture with a menu that is both expansive and comforting. Whether you’re stopping by for a hearty breakfast spread or a late lunch, HK Cafe showcases an enticing array of flavors that pay homage to traditional recipes, executed with satisfying generosity.
Step inside and you’ll feel the lively atmosphere typical of an authentic Hong Kong-style eatery—the spacious yet cozy dining area becomes vibrant, especially during busy weekends. Although the service can sometimes feel a tad rushed or stretched thin during peak hours, regular patrons appreciate the no-frills, genuine vibe that complements the down-to-earth dining experience.
The menu is a treasure trove of crowd-pleasers and classic dishes. Imagine savoring the silky smooth congee or the wok-tossed Beef Chow Fun (濕炒牛河)—tender strips of beef mingled with broad rice noodles, delivering a perfect harmony of savory soy flavors and a tender, slightly charred bite. The Hainan Chicken with Rice is another star, moist and fragrant, paired with subtly seasoned rice that balances the dish perfectly.
For noodle lovers, the Wonton Noodle in Soup features delicate wontons swimming in a rich, savory broth, offering comforting warmth with every spoonful. Alternatively, the Pork Chop Cutlet with Macaroni in Soup is a nostalgic nod to Hong Kong's fusion cafés—a crispy pork chop atop slippery noodles in a mild yet flavorful soup. Pair your meal with a glass of the signature Hong Kong-style Milk Tea, known for its strong, smooth tea blend cut with just the right amount of creamy milk, offering a refreshing and slightly sweet finish.
For those who enjoy a hearty fried rice, there’s a delicious range to explore—from the satisfying Beef Fried Rice to the unique Chinese Sausage with Broccoli Fried Rice, each bite abundant with savory goodness, balancing fragrant wok hei with the freshness of vegetables.
Dessert is not to be missed here—indulge in the nostalgic comfort of Rice Pudding or treat yourself to a slice of the famed Hong Kong bread topped with Ovaltine, combining familiar flavors with a playful texture.
While you might encounter a wait during peak hours or find parking a bit challenging, the generous portions, authentic flavors, and reasonable prices make HK Cafe a memorable destination for those seeking an honest, hearty meal. It’s a place where the food speaks louder than the fuss—inviting you back for more comforting Hong Kong café classics served with warmth and a touch of bustling local charm.
It was a crowded Saturday afternoon, and I waited about 15-20 mins for a table. The restaurant is understaffed. Most patrons are patient, some customers are grumpy where the waitress will be rude to them. The price for breakfast is great and portions are very generous. Food quality could be hit or miss. Parking could be chaotic during peak hour. You will see regular patrons grab napkins, menu, utensils, sauces, condiments, to-go boxes and plastic bags on their own due to the shortage of staff.
Just having dinner with my family at "Hongkong Cafe". The food are good as the pictures i attach. The sizzling steak also good. Super soft cames with gravy likes mushroom, garlic and black pepper. The milk tea also yummy! Dont miss the hongkong bread with ovaltine topping for your dessert! Make sure you NOT go to Hongkong cafe at 162 because this one closed already!!
The food is amazing. Very very reasonably priced. Big portions. The only issue is the service. We had to ask for a menu. We had to ask for a refill. We had to ask for sauces and utensils. Will come back again but the service needs to be better.
The food is good, I didn’t expect much of service considering they are a HK café restaurant. The price is very decent and that’s what it got me.
The place was clean and spacious. The food was good... more on the greasy side but big portions. Service was fast, and the building got packed. I'm glad I was finally able to try this place out. Will definitely be back.
This restaurant is cha chang tan style. It won't knock your socks off, but you will be very happy with the value you get. The portion is big. The triple steaks came on a big plate filled with foods. The drinks come with free refills. The food quality is above average. Come here if you want to stuff yourself with little money.
Very legit HK style 茶餐廳. Great price for the portions and good food quality. This is a regular spot for me and my family for breakfast and dinner.
